    Description

IT IS A VERY NICE MEDAL, RARE ORIGINAL MEDAL WITH 2 BARETTES, WORN BY THE FRENCH SOLDIERS THAT FOUGHT VERY HARD IN THE ALGERIAN INDEPENDENCE WAR,
WHERE THE GENERAL DE GAULLE, WHO WAS A HERO DURING WW2, BETRAYED THE LEGION AND FRANCE ITSELF IN GIVING ALGERIA ITS INDEPENDANCE IN 1962, THE WAR HAD STARTED IN 1952.
THE FIRST REGIMENT D'INFANTRY "DE LA LEGION ETRANGERE", REFUSED TO CONCEED AND HEROICALLY STOODED UP IN FRONT OF THE ENEMY AND THE WEAK FRENCH GOVERNMENT. THEY WERE PUNISHED OF HIGH TRAHISON, THE GENERALS WERE EXCECUTED AND THE PARTICIPANTS WERE EMPRISONNED...   THIS IS THE MEDAL THAT WAS AWARDED NOT ONLY TO THE LEGION BUT TO EVERY FRENCH SOLDIERS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE WAR AND DIED TO MAINTAIN ORDER AND SECURITY. SUPERB!
