Description
1947 Bausch & Lomb Binocular Microscope, INTERESTING Configuration,3 Eyepices,NR Model designation is LM 6059, suggesting made in 1947 and of the 31 & 33 class of scope. Perhaps the numbers are part of the group of numerical anomolies mentioned around this period, try as I might, I find no mention of this model anywhere, and I'm usually pretty good finding these details. Serial number under the base is 16033-185. Object lenses are 43X; 4mm, 97X; 1.8mm, 3,2X;28mm and 10X; 16mm, all B&L. three pairs of eyepieces, first a 10X Wide focus, a standard 5X and a 10X, all signed B&L. Complex lighting system is signed 'ABBE 1.25 N.A. Patented fine adjustment mechanism, 1937 patent : https://pdfpiw.uspto.gov/.piw?PageNum=0&docid=02093611&IDKey=0FDB2F04A0B9&HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpatft.uspto.gov%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fpatimg.htm There are 4 other patents, 2093611; 2101936, 2117161, 2373559.which come up as other than optical items. Perhaps they are the German patents. Microscope operates smooth as butter. Stage adjustments horizontal and vertical are just dandy, as are the parts on the light, focus and adjustments both. The fine adjustment works very well, and the three slip in eyepieces and fout lens turrent give this guy quite a useful range. I'm thinking the basic scope is built around the fine adjustment Mr Kurtz patented in, other patents might well be around the ABBE focus lighting, I'll take some extra pictures, it really is a piece of work. In addition to the 3 pairs of eyepieces, there are three bakelite type cannisters, one containing B&L instructions for preparation of oil immersion objectives, also, note the bottle of assumably the suggested Shillaber oil, near full. And the two sided original mirror is here, vg condition Last, a nice case, do note the bubbling here and there on the covering, and a crack on the still strong handle, otherwise, case is strong like bull, complete with the key, and the screw to bolt down the microscope for storage or shipping.Model designation is LM 6059, suggesting made in 1947 and of the 31 & 33 class of scope. In addition to the 3 pairs of eyepieces, there are three Bakelite type canisters labeled for the objective lenses, one containing B&L instructions for preparation of oil immersion objectives, also, note the bottle of presumably the suggested Shillaber oil, near full. Last, a nice case, do note the bubbling here and there on the covering, and a crack on the still strong handle, otherwise, case is strong like bull, complete with the key, and the screw to bolt down the microscope for storage or shipping.
